Rafting in New York is popular on the Delaware River, only 90 minutes from the large population bases in the area. White water rafting the Delaware River means easy class II rapids for fun floats in canoes, tubes and paddle rafts. This area is excellent for first-time rafters, or families with younger kids. Slower water in between rapids can also allow great float time for water fights, and general fun on the river. Bachelor parties, big groups can feel a little more relaxed on a river like this. The Delaware River is the longest undammed river east of the Mississippi River. It flows out of the CatSkill Mountains, forms part of the southern edges of the state of New York, then southward forming the entire eastern border of New Jersey. The Catskills are the original vacation destination in the area, and are seeing a renaissance of tourism, with charming cottages, museums of the area's rich and famed history.

In upstate New York, you'll find more advanced white water rafting thrills coming out of the Adirondack Mountains in the Hudson River Gorge. In the spring runoff you can experience the thundering Class IV and V rapids that delight and thrill big white water rafting season visitors. Despite the laid back vision you might have in your head when you think of the famous Adirondack chairs that came from this region, there is plenty of active adventure available - and then you can lay back and in your chair and talk of the day's adventures!
