Alaska: The Last Frontier
Everything you want in Alaska is in on a Rafting Trip

Alaska White Water Rafting Adventures

Alaska... the very name of it conjures images of immense landscapes filled to the sky with cragged mountain peaks, glaciers, wildlife that seems just as large, and vibrant crimson salmon filling the rivers, feeding the ecosystem that surrounds from sea to source. They say if you don't want the rest of your life's travels to disappoint, then don't travel to Alaska as a youngster. It's scale is mind-blowing. With so much to explore in the largest state in the Union, and so many ways to fill your time, and with the assumption of cooler summer temperatures, you might not think first of Alaska for white water rafting. But that's a big mistake, like Alaska big.

Thirteen thousand square miles of National Park, the nation's largest, is not Denali National Park, but the Wrangell St. Elias National Park in the lower right corner of the state. It is home to the largest peaks in Alaska and Canada, the entire Wrangell range and portions of the St. Elias and Chugach ranges. The Copper River, with mild to moderate white water rapids, runs through the heart of the massive National Park and mountain ranges, and is the quintessential Alaska river run at one-hundred miles over 6-7 days by raft from beginning to end. Combine different lengths of runs on the Nizina River and Copper River from source to sea (or day sections therein, accessible by bush plane), in addition to combination hiking and rafting trips.

The Canadian side of this same complex of parks and preserves is the Kluane National Park and Preserve, and the Tatshenshini-Alsek Provincial Park, and Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve below that. The Tatshenshini River is another iconic white water trip that is technically in Alaska, but originates across the border, near Whitehorse, Yukon Territory Canada.

Day trips in Alaska can also be found near Fairbanks, Denali National Park, and on the Kenai Peninsula near Anchorage, Alaska.
